Great Doctor Ling Ran

Chapter 983: Wanted to Chase Away

Chapter 983: Wanted to Chase Away

Ling Ran prescribed some medication for the patient with the atrial septal defect and gave the nurse some orders before rushing back to resuscitate patients.

Atrial septal defect closure was considered a small heart surgery, and it could be carried out as an outpatient surgery in many hospitals, which means that the patients could leave the hospital on the day of the surgery itself. For the purpose of claims, the patients would be admitted to the hospitals. However, the patients would actually only stay at the hospital for a few hours. After their family members received some instructions, they could recuperate at home.

However, even though it was an outpatient surgery, it was still a scheduled surgery. Hence, it was different from emergency surgeries, where the focus was to deal with the main problems. Before receiving atrial septal defect closure, a patient had to go for a transesophageal echocardiography, electrocardiography and chest X-ray. They also had to consume aspirin beforehand. All of this required arrangements to be made.

After having breakfast the following morning, Ling Ran called all his subordinates along and headed to the Cardiology Department.

The equipment and facilities required for interventional surgeries were relatively different, and even though they were placed on the surgical floor, they belonged to various departments. Since Ling Ran wanted to borrow them, he naturally had to explain where he was coming from.

After Huo Congjun and Zuo Cidian got a confirmation from Ling Ran, they showed their support. Moreover, they even asked the other doctors in the treatment group to accompany Ling Ran to receive the patient.

Ling Ran led the way as they walked toward the Cardiology Department.

Behind him, Zuo Cidian stood a little to his right. Lu Wenbin and Zhang Anmin were also there, and all of them walked around Yu Yuan to protect her as she might get trampled on due to her height.

Aside from this, Huang Maoshi from Changxi Medical Company and Mai Chun from Yunli Medical Company were there with engineers from their respective companies.

Even though there were quite a lot of people, they were silent, and they appeared exceptionally well-trained.

They walked calmly through the main hall of the Emergency Medical Center and divided themselves into two batches to enter the elevator.

It was only then that Lu Wenbin and the rest of the people who were still waiting for the elevator breathed a sigh of relief.

“I’m so nervous. I feel like we’re going to war.” Lu Wenbin took a deep breath when he saw that the elevator doors had slid close.

“We are indeed going to war,” Zhang Anmin said in a nostalgic tone, and he was in rather high spirits. He was definitely the one who supported Ling Ran in carrying out cardiac surgeries the most among the members of Ling Treatment Group. Hence, even though he was already an associate chief physician of the Department of Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery, Zhang Anmin insisted on heading to the Cardiology Department along with the resident doctors. And he was more earnest in doing so compared to Yu Yuan and the others.

Lu Wenbin’s face twitched a few times, and he did not refute what Zhang Anmin said. He merely nodded a little and said, “It’s a pity that atrial septal defect closure is not a major surgery…”

“We should always start small. Moreover, it’s heart surgery, and it’s atrial septal defect closure at that… It’s a good start.” Zhang Anmin tried to flash a heroic smile, but no matter how he tried, he was unable to look like a man of justice.

Ma Yanlin, who was standing beside them, looked a little pale. But he agreed. “Heart surgeries are pretty good.”

“It’s more than good.” Zhang Anmin tried to flash an even more heroic smile, and there was a longing in his eyes. “If we really start performing heart surgeries in the Emergency Medical Center, in the future, even your wife would have to kneel down and give you a bl*wjob at home.”

Ma Yanlin’s face immediately became even paler. He gulped with difficulty and said, “Can you talk about something else?”

“You want something else?” Zhang Anmin gazed at his reflection on the stainless steel elevator doors and could not help but to flash a smile. “If you want something else, then you must think about getting a promotion, no? With a higher position, you would get more perks, such as getting more surgeries.”

Zhang Anmin had taken the opportunity to boast about his position. And he could not help but start comparing heart surgeries and liver surgeries.

In the hospital, the Cardiology Department and the Orthopedics Department were the ones that made the most money. Of course, profits were high in the Ophthalmology Department too. However, with the way things were in Yun Hua Hospital now, not too many doctors were needed.

The profits made by various departments were determined by the way money was distributed in the hospital. Now that the policy no longer favored departments that mainly earned money through drugs, the Neurosurgery Department and other internal medicine departments no longer made as much money. Instead, departments, where plenty of expensive medical consumables were required, made plenty of money due to the fact that they could get an exaggerated amount of commission from those medical consumables.

Artificial hip joints and knee joints used in the Orthopedics Department for joint replacement surgeries cost tens of thousands of RMB.

However, it was tough to work in the Orthopedics Department, where the surgeons had to lift heavy objects like thighs, and things were a lot easier in the Cardiology Department. Whether a person was talking about the stents that even laymen knew about or occluders which were quite rarely used, they were both pricey medical consumables. Moreover, due to the difference in technology levels between doctors in China and foreign doctors, the prices of these medical consumables in China were often hiked.

From what Zhang Anmin knew, doctors from the Cardiology Department almost never carried out freelance surgeries.

What kind of life must they be living and how much money must they be making to be able to resist freelance surgeries?

If Zhang Anmin had a choice, he would definitely choose to become a cardiologist.

With this thought in mind, Zhang Anmin was even more determined to conquer the Cardiology Department today.

“Old Zuo, what’re you guys planning to do?” After stepping out of the elevator, Zhang Anmin immediately caught up with Zuo Cidian.

“From what I hear from Doctor Ling, he should be planning to have a friendly discussion with them,” Zuo Cidian answered earnestly, but his expression was not serious at all?

“Friendly discussion?” Zhang Anmin glanced at the resident doctors behind him. If it were not for the fact that he was on the same team as them, he would have started laughing.

Lu Wenbin cleared his throat and said, “If a fight ensues later, I’ll be responsible for protecting Doctor Ling as he flees.”

The other people finally started laughing, which made the atmosphere a little less tense.

This was when the doctors and nurses of the Cardiology Department started noticing Ling Ran and his entourage. They saw that there were smiles on the faces of the doctors walking behind Ling Ran.

Soon, Department Director Yuan from the Cardiology Department gathered a group of people. He walked out of his office with those people to welcome Ling Ran.

Department Director Yuan was over the age of fifty, but his cheeks were pink, indicating that he was still as fit as a fiddle. He looked vigilantly at Ling Ran and asked, “Doctor Ling, why are you here? Oh, by the way, is everything fine with the patient from yesterday? Did things go well?”

Not even a preoperative consultation required the presence of so many doctors, and Ling Ran as well as his entourage were giving Department Director Yuan the vibe that they were here to start a gang fight.

Of course, this was not the only reason why Department Director Yuan felt threatened. He would rather have Ling Ran here for a gang fight. This way, he would not mind too much even if all the nurses in his department were injured.

“I would like to borrow an operating theater from the Cardiology Department. It would be best if the Cardiology Department could send some men over to help out,” Ling Ran voiced out his request right away.

He was a straightforward man, and he believed that the operating theater of the Cardiology Department was the best place to perform surgeries such as atrial septal defect closure, as it would be the simplest and the most convenient.

If Department Director Yuan agreed to it, he could immediately ask his subordinates to get the operating theater ready, and it would be best if he could learn a thing or two from the doctors from the Cardiology Department by assisting them in a couple of surgeries. This way, the Cardiology Department basically would not be affected at all. Ling Ran would also reap plenty of benefits out of this.

However, from the perspective of the doctors of the Cardiology Department, Ling Ran’s reply was like him firing a gun in their faces.

Department Director Yuan had expected this, and he flashed the kind of expression one had when faced with a formidable enemy. He said with a dark expression, “Doctor Ling, you’ve just conquered a territory of the Cardiovascular Surgery Department, and I’m sure that you haven’t spent enough time enjoying it yet. Why are you in such a rush to conquer our territory?”

Ling Ran looked at him with a baffled expression. “There isn’t any logical relation between what you’re saying and my request at all.”

“I…” Department Director Yuan wanted to speak some harsh words, but he ended up shaking his head. “Doctor Ling, you can forget about this. We from the Cardiology Department have worked hard for what we have. Things weren’t handed to us in a silver platter, you know. Every time you’re interested in a new surgical method, look at what happened? Look at what happened to the Cardiovascular Department, Department of Interventional Services, and the Digestive Surgery Department…”

Department Director Yuan looked around in an arrogant manner, and his gaze was sharp.

“I only intend to borrow the operating theater for around two hours.” Ling Ran merely wanted to perform a surgery, as he wanted to try out the Perfect Level Atrial Septal Defect Closure that he had just obtained.

Department Director Yuan shook his head again. He was not worried about how long Ling Ran would be using the operating theater. What he was worried about was Ling Ran conquering his department.

“This way, we’ll have no choice but to purchase our own facilities.” Ling Ran sighed. He then turned and nodded at Huang Maoshi and Mai Chun, who were standing behind him.

He brought these pharmaceutical sales representatives along with him so that they could guide him regarding the related facilities. They could also prepare the medical consumables that he would be using.

The main selling point of Changxi Medical Company was locally produced amplatzer septal occluders made of nitinol. Meanwhile, Yunli Medical Company was capable of providing imported amplatzer septal occluders. Ling Ran needed to weigh the pros and cons of both choices before making a decision.

When Department Director Yuan heard what Ling Ran had said, his expression immediately changed. He no longer looked like he wanted to chase Ling Ran and his entourage away.

‘Purchase their own facilities?

‘Purchase their own facilities just to perform an atrial septal defect closure?

‘Is he an idiot?’

But Department Director Yuan could not help but feel a chill run down his spine when he thought about the implications of this idiotic plan.

It was not so easy to purchase hospital facilities. Even the tendering process itself might take a year or two.

However, it had never been difficult for Ling Ran to purchase equipment and facilities. Department Director Yuan could not help but think of something else. ‘If Ling Ran purchases his own facilities and builds an operating theater fit for heart surgeries, would he stop at one surgery?’

“Wait…” Department Director Yuan forced a smile. “Doctor Ling, how many hours did you say that you need the operating theater again?”
